Verify product conformity before placing on the EU market

Before you import and sell a product in the EU, check the compliance paperwork. Confirm the manufacturer ran the correct conformity assessment for this product type, that CE marking is present, that an EU declaration of conformity (or declaration of performance) is available, and that the manufacturer has properly labelled the product. These checks are your responsibility — you cannot simply trust the manufacturer without verifying.

Article 19(1) of Regulation (EU) 2024/2847 requires that before placing a product with digital elements on the market, importers shall verify that the manufacturer has carried out the appropriate conformity assessment procedure referred to in Article 32; the manufacturer has drawn up the technical documentation referred to in Annex VII; the product bears the CE marking and is accompanied by the EU declaration of conformity or declaration of performance and by the instructions and information referred to in Annex II; and that the manufacturer has complied with the requirements in Article 13(15) and (16) regarding product identification and contact details.
